Gaming Goes Beyond Just Fun

Using recent tools such as the Unity platform, game development can be done more quickly and more inexpensively than ever. Add to this a proliferation of devices that can be used to experience and control the gaming environment, and that means opportunity is everywhere.

Here are just a few of the devices that we have programmed against, written drivers for, or are currently experimenting with "out in the garage":

  • IOM Device - This device measures heart rate, breathing rate and skin connectivity. We've developed games for Wild Divine using this device to control all kinds of cool game features -- quieting a tiger, bring a boat to shore, flying over a mountain range -- all by quieting your heart and mind. This is meditation in the realm of awesome.
  • Muse - This device can measure the EKG, a.k.a., brain waves. As the player watches a graphical scene that is manipulated by their mind, they begin to learn out to control their thoughts and emotions. This has powerful applications beyond just fun, and we are starting to work with medical researchers on the possibilities.
  • Oculus Rift - This headset provides a virtual reality experience to gamers and everyday users. Zoo Zoo Web is exploring the possiblities with this device and other VR headsets such as the new Morpheus from Sony.

Aside from these more "out there" applications, our Unity developers can bring their experience to quickly create games from the simple to the complex. Gamification of non game related applications is beginning to be a cost-effective and exciting possibility.
